Are You Resisting Change?

I just heard a song that I LOVED! I am a huge country music fan. When I was younger, I wanted to be a country music singer and live in Nashville with Tim Mcgraw. Then Faith came into the picture and killed the dream. So now I sing Karaoke in my living room and wonder if, at 47, I’m too old for Sam Hunt. 😉

The song is called “Fly” by Maddie and Tae

Keep on climbing though the ground might shake
Keep on reaching though the limb might break
You’ve come this far, don’t you be scared now
Cause you can learn to fly on the way down

So many times I see people who are waiting, waiting and waiting. They know they need to make a change, but they don’t take action.

“It’s not the right time. I need to lose more weight. I need to know more. I need to feel more confident. I need to have more money or more time”…. the list goes on and on.

So many things get in the way of making a life change – fear, doubt, procrastination, problems, complacency, lack of energy, busy-ness, confusion – there always seems to be some challenge we are facing.

If your life is in need of a change, you can feel it. You may resist it, but deep inside you know that you need to do something different.

Why do we resist change?

Change takes work. It means moving into the unknown where things will be different.

We have become quite attached to our comfort zones. Even if we are not where we want to be, at least we are in a familiar place. We settle for familiar and comfortable and sacrifice our true desires.

We have this love/hate relationship with change. We want it – so bad! But then we don’t want to do what needs to be done to make it happen. We become a wall, blocking our own growth and development.

We resist…

When you need to make a change in your life, you get messages and signs. They may be subtle at first, but then if you don’t take action, they get louder and stronger.

Then if you continue not taking action, something may happen that forces you to change…. and it feels like the rug has been pulled out from under you.

If you know you need to make a change in any area of your life, you should get started on it right away.

Why? Because when one are of your life is off, it can affect other areas.

For instance, if you want a new job, career, or want to start your own business, this could affect other areas of your life.

It may be getting in the way of your weight loss goals, causing you to be frustrated in your love life or irritable with your kids. It could even be causing you to lose self-confidence or become depressed.

Have you ever heard the saying, one apple spoils the whole bunch?

Apples produce a gaseous hormone called ethylene, a ripening agent. The ethylene causes the other apples around it to ripen further. Over time one apple can cause all the fruit around it to eventually rot.

This is how your life works. When one area is not working, it can eventually affect other areas too.

I’m not talking about perfection. There will never be a time when every part of your life is in perfect order and problem-free. I’m talking about that part of your life that you know deep inside that is screaming for a change.

Once you take the action you have been resisting, then you will see other areas of your life improve. You will feel better, have more confidence and be more productive.

There is no perfect time to change. You must take this time and make it perfect.

Jump…. And learn to fly on the way down!
