Have you ever been afraid of making mistake?
Have you ever been worried that you will do or say the wrong thing?
Let’s tackle that fear right now.
You will make mistakes. It is 100% guaranteed that you will mess up, so there is no need to be afraid of it.
I make mistakes all the time. I disappoint myself, others and make the wrong choices.
Sometimes I make big mistakes, like spending a ton of money on a marketing idea that tanks.
Sometimes I make small mistakes, like forgetting to put my son’s clothes in the dryer and making him go to school with wet underwear. (To him, this is a big mistake 🙂
We are imperfectly perfect, so we are going to fall down.
There are times when we feel we are suppose do something, but we don’t want to do it wrong.
Sometimes we have to let go of one thing to take hold of another. In order to have what we want, we have to give up what we have now.
No one wants to make a mistake in this area, because you think, “If I give up what I have now, I could end up with nothing”.
I see this in the area of relationships. We don’t want to let go of a relationship because we are afraid we wont find another one.
We will settle for so-so, just to avoid the risk of being alone, or to avoid ending up with a person who is worse than the one we have.
I also see this fear with career changes, especially when someone is considering leaving a secure job and becoming an entrepreneur.
In order to move past this fear, you have to take a strategic risk. You have to have a well, thought out plan with actionable steps. Don’t do anything foolish, of course.
A good plan will help you see that what you want is possible, but it may not eliminate the fear of making a mistake.
The only way to overcome that fear is to step out in faith and be led by your spirit.
Faith + Plan + Action = Results
The results will probably include disappointment. You will do and say the wrong things and make bad choices.
But if you are meant to do something and you keep working it, and you don’t let anything stop you… YOU WILL GET IT.
So why be afraid of mistakes? Expect them to happen, learn from them and move on.
When you get knocked down, you have 2 choices: stand still, keep walking or sit down and settle for an average life.
I have a new client with an incredible business idea. It’s one of those ideas like the post-it note, that makes you say, “Why didn’t I think of that?”
He has had this idea for 2 years and never acted on it because he is afraid of making mistakes. He is worried that it won’t work and he will lose time and money.
Have you ever had an idea and then watched someone else do it and make millions? It’s not a great feeling. You have to ask yourself, what stopped you from acting on that idea? How long are you going to let that stop you?
The good news is that every day is a fresh start. You are not defined by your past. Trust God to help you do your best, recover from your mistakes and stay on your path.
You have a destiny and you need to live it!
